2004

We, from the Mystical Rose for Seminarian Support (M.R.S.S.), are delighted to announce that the celebration of the Feast of our Lady the Mystical Rose was a resounding success.

Many of our friends, fellow members, and supporters came to not only to celebrate but to volunteer their time and talents to help make the event a success. We were thrilled to also have in attendance, coordinators for the Rosa Mystica from Houston, Texas as well as others who came from neighboring cities such as Fort Worth, Hurst, Plano, Richardson, Ennis and Corsicana just to name a few.

The evening’s scheduled entertainment was another splendid performance by the Maharlika dancers. As the organizers of the Maharlika dancers, our thanks go to Remus and Merna Parcon for their steadfast support.

Continuing the MRSS tradition of promoting unity among our varied community, people from diverse cultures came together for a noble cause. We were elated to have performances from a variety of groups and individuals. There was a surprise dance number performed by the Hispanic group from Ennis, Texas and a wonderful interpretive dance regarding Filipino courtship, performed by Lopar and Marnie Lopez. The audience was mesmerized and spellbound witnessing (perhaps for many them their first exposure) a compilation of folk dancing presented in such a festive array of colors, grace and beauty.

The food was sumptuous, having a multicultural group, everyone could experience food prepared by our member’s native country from all around the world. Those from Trinidad delighted us with homemade ice cream to serve for dessert, and how about the Korean food, from bulgogi to kamahi everyone enjoyed the flavor. Mexico was represented and their molĂ disappeared quickly. There was good ole Texas brisket and of course with all Fiestas, Filipino prepared “lechon”, must be part of the menu and representatives of Sto. Nino de Cebu (Garland & Murphy Chapters), served us delicious pancit and adobo. Lita of the MQH, deliciously prepared the fish that Fr. Ernie caught for this occasion. Our thanks go out to Robert and Maria Marshall for donating the roast pig for the event.

Weren’t the decorations simply beautiful? Our Blessed Mother the Mystical Rose must have chosen Max Aurellio to do the decorations for her celebration. We like to thank the Knights of Columbus headed by their Grand Knight Jerry Vanlooy and the Rosary Altar Society with Terry Gregory in giving us a much appreciated helping hand in order to help make the celebration a success.

Our heartfelt thanks, for Fr. Robert Williams, pastor of Good Shepherd Catholic Church. Thank you for allowing us to hold the event at Good Shepherd Church and for being our celebrant for the Feast day Mass. We are also grateful to all the priests who shared their time to offer us Holy Mass starting from the first night of the triduum through the Feast day. Fr. Wilson Blass who came and celebrated the first night of the triduum, Fr. Solh Saez gave us a beautiful homily about our Blessed mother during the second night of the triduum and Fr. Felix who’s always there when MRSS needs assistance. For Msgr. Oscar Gales who drove from Ferris Texas to be with us, we are very grateful. We would also like to thank Fr. Thomas and Msgr. Villaroya who concelebrated on the Feast day Mass.

And we extend our gratitude to the Fil-Am Catholics of Dallas, Sto Nino de Cebu (Garland & Murphy Chapters) and the Franciscan 3rd Order who sponsored the Mass during the triduum.

As the current president of MRSS, I’m blessed to be part of this organization whose members work very hard and sacrifice every year to share their time, talent and other blessings to raise funds for our seminarians. I have no words to express my gratitude.

To our benefactors who generously respond to our plea, we thank you and God bless you.
